Yahoo Facilities

There are currently two web components in use by the Apira Ski Club.

1.                  The web site (which you are looking at now).

This is our main repository for general information about about the club. It is able to be read by anyone in the world, whether they belong to the ski club or not. For that reason, information displayed here is not of a private nature, as there is no security applied to its access.

2.                  The Yahoo Group.

The Yahoo organisation provides a number of free services to web uses, which are funded by advertising. The benefit of this to us is that  we can use a Yahoo Group which has access controlled by a password which is unique to each member. The membership of the group is controlled by the Club so that only persons who are members can have access. The facilities provided include

·        An email list which enables any member to send an email to ALL other registered members by sending an email to the Yahoo group.

·        A file storage area where papers such as meeting minutes, agendas, members lists etc which are useful to members but which we do not want to make public, can be safely stored for retrieval by members.

·        Other facilities which we do not use yet such as polls, a calendar, photo albums etc

Apira Ski Club members can belong to Yahoo on two levels:-

a)      As an email only member. We can set this up for you as soon as we have your email address. Send an email to Apira-subscribe@yahoogroups.com.au

b)      As a Yahoo member, you are able to belong to a number of Yahoo services including the Groups, an email service and other things. Go to here to sign up as a Yahoo member. This type of access requires you to set up a password for yourself and supply some basic information. When you do this be aware that if you tick boxes to indicate that you are interested in the advertising options  you will be inundated with junk email so it is probably best not to check any boxes. After you have signed up go to here to join the Apira Yahoo Group.

If you change your email address, you need to take action.
If you're a Yahoo Groups member with a Yahoo id, you can change your own email address in your Yahoo profile.
If you're an email list only member, you can just subscribe again as in b) above, and send an email to us to cancel the old one.
