Work Parties Several work parties are held each year to undertake maintenance, repair and cleaning tasks which are within the skills of the members to perform. These tasks include painting, cleaning and whatever other activities are necessary to get our lodge up and running for the coming season. Another task is helping to cook the meals for the work party. Priority points are earned by members who attend work parties at the rate of one per working person in their group. Introducing guests to Apira by bringing them on work parties is a great way to get them involved in the working of Apira and generates points for you at the same time. People attending work parties usually meet at the lodge on Friday night, and work all day Saturday and Sunday morning, usually finishing just after lunch for the return journey home on Sunday afternoon. It is important to have well attended work parties with participants from across our membership, to enable the lodge to be kept running without the need to employ paid tradesmen, unless absolutely necessary. Work party participation benefits everyone as it keeps our running costs down.
Currently there are a number of major jobs under
way with more work parties scheduled for the rest of the Summer season.
Remaining Work Parties scheduled follow. Please check back here regularly in case these change.
30th & 31st March - need more volunteers
urgently, please contact Terry Glover
21st & 22nd April
26th & 27th May
If you are interested in attending, please
contact Terry Glover who
can advise details of work to be completed at the respective Work Party closer
to the date. We will also start to include more information on what tools or
even safety needs are required at the respective WP. We are keen to encourage as many members and applicants as possible to attend at least one work party a year and we do not require special skills for all activities that will be completed at each WP.
The respective WP leader will allocate jobs
appropriately to people attending each WP and if any skills are required there
will also be skilled people on site to coach and this may be a great
opportunity for people to learn new skills.
